Growing human, social and natural capital through farms in communities

A hub for the community to engage with sustainable commercial food production in a hands-on learning experience.

U Farm is a sustainable urban farming model within the heartlands where education and community meet.

Our name represents both the U in university and is an abbreviation of "you", a nod to both the education and community aspects of our social enterprise.

About The Founder

With experience in both agriculture and education, Darren Tan currently runs U Farm, a sustainable urban farming model in the heartlands that focuses on education and community.

His farming experience began in 2015 when he spent two months on a World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) programme in the south of Spain. When he returned, he joined local hydroponics rooftop farm ComCrop, where he was the Head of Education and Community Outreach for five years. During this time, he conducted workshops and tours for more than 100 schools and organisations.

As a former educator, teaching is close to Darren’s heart. He is currently an Associate Lecturer at Republic Polytechnic Singapore, after having taught in the Ministry of Education for seven years prior. Now, he channels that passion for teaching through educating schools and organisations on Singapore’s food security issues and how we can address them. He has worked with a wide spectrum of students from schools such as Hwa Chong International, Nanyang Girls’ High, Geylang Methodist Secondary School, and Grace Orchard School.

Darren is also involved in several sustainability efforts on a national level, including the YSEALI Professional Fellowship (Young South-East Asian Leaders Initiative), Our Singapore Leaders Programme, MSE-NYC Youth Circle, and mentorship for the Youth Action Challenge.

More recently, he completed the Leading Sustainable Corporations Programme offered by Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
